UN Security Council designates Masood Azhar as Global Terrorist
The Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It has 15 Members, and each Member has one vote.
Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da'esh) Al-Qaida and associated individuals groups undertakings and entities.
Earlier, the P-3 or group of three permanent UNSC members, the U.S., the U.K. and France had co-sponsored a listing request at the committee on Feb, 27.
At the end of March, the U.S. circulated a draft resolution(to sanction Azhar) among the UNSC members, i.e. outside the 1267 committee.
Effects on Masood Azhar after this declarations are the following:-
ASSETS FREEZE: All the states freeze funds, financial assets, economic resources of the designed individuals, entities.
TRAVEL BAN: All States prevent entry into or transit through their territories by designated individuals.
ARMS EMBARGO: All States prevent direct or indirect supply of arms, related material to designated individuals and entities.
