Banjari village of Katni district in MP to become an integral part of the digital map of the country

Prime Minister’s initiative among the of Digital India is the Banjari village of Katni district becomes the 1st village in Madhya Pradesh(MP) to become an integral part of the digital map of the country.
The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEiTY) won the Digital Village Project. It has planned to build 1000 digital villages across India in this phase starting from Banjari Gram Panchayat of MP.
The project provides connectivity in every village & bridge the digital gap between rural and urban areas of the country. 
Akodara village of Sabarkantha district of Gujarat is the 1st digital village in India.
The MEiTY planned to create one lakh digital villages of this kind in the next 5 years.
About Digital India campaign:
The program launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 July 2015 The services are made available to citizens electronically by improved online infrastructure and by increasing Internet connectivity or by making the country digitally empowered in the field of technology.

 

The fourth edition of the Internet of Things India Congress 2019 held in Bengaluru

The 4th edition of India’s largest confluence of digital technology, the Internet of Things (IoT) India Congress 2019 held in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The theme of Edition is ‘Mainstreaming the Internet of Things’.
It was inaugurated by Shri Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India(GoI). The IoT India Congress 2019 will include tracks on segments such as healthcare, manufacturing, telecom, smart cities, energy, retail, cybersecurity, skills and development, IoT Standards, legal and regulatory, and agriculture.

Internet of Things (IoT)
The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction.

 

G7 Summit

Why in news: The 45th Annual G7 Summit is being held in the French town of Biarritz.

What is G7 Summit?

  • G7 Summit is an event conducted annually where world leaders from seven powerful economies of the world come together to discuss burning issues happening around the globe.
  • They, by mutual understanding, also form policies or figure out remedies for the concerned issue.

 

The 2019 G7 Summit, presided over by France, will focus on fighting inequality. France has identified the following five objectives for the Summit: 

  1. fighting inequality of opportunity, promoting in particular gender equality, access to education and high quality health services;
  2. reducing environmental inequality;
  3. strengthening the social dimension of globalization;
  4. taking action for peace against security threats and terrorism; and
  5. tapping into the opportunities created by digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

What is G7?

The G7, originally G8, was set up in 1975 as an informal forum bringing together the leaders of the world’s leading industrial nations.

The summit gathers leaders from the European Union (EU) and the following countries:

  1. Canada
  2. France
  3. Germany
  4. Italy
  5. Japan
  6. the United Kingdom
  7. the United States

 

Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers launched Janaushadhi Sugam was launched

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers launched a mobile application Janaushadhi Sugam. It was launched by the Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda. The Ministry has also announced that Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Oxo-Biodegradable Sanitary Napkinwill now is available at only One Rupee per pad. 

Aim:
The Janaushadhi Sugam app will help the people to search for Janaushadhi generic medicines and the stores in the nearby location. A report said that in India about 28 million girls are leaving education because of lack of availability of good quality Sanitary Napkin pads at a reasonable cost. It ensures the health security of underprivileged Indian women who still use unhygienic aids during menstrual period due to non-affordability of sanitary pads available in the market.

 

China and Pakistan began joint exercise Shaheen-VIII near Ladakh

China and Pakistan began joint exercise  Labelled  ‘Shaheen-VIII’ in the Chinese city of Holton, close to the Indian border of around 300 km north of  Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir(J&K). This is the 8thsuch exercise undertaken by two countries with the participation of Chinese J10 & J-11  and Pakistani JF-17s planes.

Pakistani JF-17 planes (a single-engined light jet aircraft)passed through the Skardu airbase in Gilgit Baltistan area occupied by Pakistan. India claims is a part of the former princely state of J&K.
The single-engine, single-seat J-10 is a product of the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group. JF-17, a lightweight, single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China.
The exercise will help India’s two neighbors of China &Pakistan to improve bilateral relation. In 2018, ‘Shaheen-VII’ was held in Pakistan.

 

MHRD launched the National Digital Library of India

 National Digital Library integrated with Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) App and users can register through www.ndl.gov.in or through the mobile app.
There are more than 3 crore digital resources available through the National Digital Library.
Human Resource Development Ministry under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology, NMEICT launched the National Digital Library of India project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. 
As of now, there are more than 3 crore digital resources available through the National Digital Library. The contents cover almost all major domains of education and all major levels of learners. More than 50 lakh students have registered themselves in the National Digital Library with about 20 lakh active users.
National Digital Library has been integrated with UMANG App and users can register through www.ndl.gov.in or through the mobile app.
